hot, hot, hot

Alright, sometimes the creative juices of inspiration are flowing like the Slurpee machine at the 7-Eleven. You know, when it's not really cold enough and the red light is on. Sometimes the creative juices are flowing like the Slurpee machine when the temperature is just a little too cold, and the Slurpee just plops into your cup. Other times you just see something good elsewhere and steal it.

So, Happy 4th of December! Just think, five months ago it was hot, and people were blowing up stuff all over the place. Today, well, it's colder and I'm not going to eat any watermelon, or pull a monkey in a parade, or... well, it's December people, not July! You don't like watermelon that much anyway do you? Hmmmmmm...

There's some snow on the ground, but it's dirty and red from the cinders. It's not very cold, but cold enough that you need some form of jacket or coat. There's sunshine, but not enough that you really need sunglasses, but then again you do for the few moments when the glare gets in your eyes. It's like the holiday cookie platter that makes the rounds this time of year. No, I really don't like those, but sure I'll try one. After eating about four of five you realize you do like them, but next time you'll have more control.

Self-control and the holidays. That's almost as comedic as jumbo shrimp, Grape Nuts, one size fits all, or a free lunch. Yep, it's about indulgence. Eat too much, spend too much, drink too much and generally drive yourself crazy a little too much.

Speaking of indulgence, you can never go wrong with candles. The crack reporters at Newschannel 21 have some wise advise for the lovers of the burning wick:

Blow out all candles before leaving the room or before going to sleep.
Keep candles away from things that burn.
Place candles out of reach of small children and pets.
Keep candles out of high traffic areas.
Avoid candles with items embedded in them such as twigs, flowers or leaves. These items can ignite or even explode.

While this is good advice, it's a good idea to remember a few more things:

-Avoid placing floating candles in the toilet
-Blowing out your candles with a mouth full of Jack Daniels is a bad idea
-Hot wax is hot, and not in that Paris Hilton sort of way, well, then again....
-Remember, long candles have long wicks. Don't forget that.
-Gift wrap your candles BEFORE you light them.

Ahhhhhhhh...fire safety tips on the 4th. You knew it would come full circle. Play it safe, you don't want to get burned whether it's eating too much peanut brittle, putting up too many icicle lights on your house, playing the Elvis Christmas Hits cd a little too much or even buying someone a Chia Pet. Someone has to be the sucker. Don't let it be you.
