Milky Goodness

Got Milk?

Speaking of milking it, the City is going all out today to celebrate the opening of Newport Bridge. Similarly, people who live along Portland Ave. will celebrate as well, but jumping up and down and running in the street without the fear of being hit by the eight-million (or so) vehicles that used the road while Newport was closed.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the reopening of the Newport Avenue Bridge will be held at noon on Friday, Dec. 8 on the east end of the bridge. The bridge will reopen immediately after the ceremony, just in time for Saturday's Bend Christmas Parade. The reopening will come just in time for the Christmas shopping season for downtown merchants - the bridge carries more than 15,500 vehicle trips each day. Work will continue on final touches such as sidewalk construction, painting and landscaping. Final work on the bridge is expected to be completed in 2007.

Final touches besides those listed above will include the 80 foot tall half man, half shark, half alligator, statue that will be climbing out of the water, onto the side of the bridge and raising a hand into the air, with a plaque across his chest reading Welcome to the Old Newport Bridge District.

What? You say that won't happen? Who predicted roundabout art? Just say, you haven't been warned. And if the milky goodness of this post didn't suit you, maybe you're lactose intolerant. Yep.
