The Most Efficient Form Of Forward Movement

With gas prices nearly at $3.50 a gallon, you need to think about doing something different. Okay, not THAT different, but I know that the idea of paying nearly $100 to fill up the tank is a bit of a turn off. As a result of this, people are doing what they can to change old habits of simply hopping into the car by themselves. Being a cyclist, I always welcome the idea of more people biking for their commutes. It's great exercise, it’s easy, and means less cars on the roads. The bike manufacturers know that some people aren't into the spandex shorts and other assorted gear when they want to ride three blocks to Starbucks as well. These people want to keep it simple, but look good in the process, so here’s a few goodies to wet your cycling appetite. Trek bikes introduced The Lime which is a great commuter bike (maybe except for the price tag). Jorg & Olif bikes have something similar (with a price to match as well). The truth is you don't need a $1000 bike to start out with, but you certainly are better off spending more on a good bike than $75 for a clunker at Walmart. Motivation? Warmer weather and high gas prices, what else could you ask for? On my own cycling crusade, I got a much earlier start riding this year and am already ahead of my pace of last year by more than a month already. Certainly a good sign and there's no reason to slow down. Commute Options week is not far away either, so get ready now and ease your butt into biking, rather than doing it all in one week. Not inspired enough? You love the 80's right? Well, pick up a couple of rentals such as Quicksilver or RAD. If Kevin Bacon doesn't make you want to ride, there's no hope.
