Out Bush, Out To Dinner & Out And About

09.02.2007

Scenic views all around

Ahhhhhhh....a three day weekend. Nice. Ahhhhhhh...The Shins were in Bend. Nice. Pretty trippy considering they were in Sydney about a week before I was. I think it would have been cool to see them there and then here. Almost.

This section features going into my second week. We headed out for the big day drip out in the bush and the next few days I spent exploring more of Alice Springs.

Monday

A big day out with the wee dingos. We first headed to Ellery Creek Big Hole, which is part of the Finke River, a very very very old river. Trust me, it's old. Ellery is gorgeous and in the warmer weather you can swim there. Ahhhhhh, something to put on the to do list.

Next we drove another 43km to Ormiston Gorge. First up was a picnic with the rellies, friends and family. It was a beautiful day with perfect weather and minimal flies at the picnic site. After a nice lunch we headed down into the gorge. There was water and the surrounding rocks were bright red. The space is huge and as you walk deeper into the gorge the terrain gets more severe.

Glen Helen Gorge was a very short drive from Ormiston. This was a good place to get an ice-cream, but we were up for a little adventure: a helicopter flight. Yeah, what a rush, what a blast, what a view. The lack of door on my side was a little disconcerting, but the seat belt held. The chopper was loaded, with a cassette deck, which worried me, because why not have a cd player, but then again the noise from the chopper was loud enough that listening to music wouldn't make much sense. Anyway, the view was amazing. Something to put on the to do list, is a much longer flight next time. What a view.

On the way back we hit the Ochre Pits which was fascinating, but after the other sites we were ready to head home. On the drive back we blasted some Beach Boys on the stereo, which was fun to be in the Australian desert and listen to Surfin' Safari. We made it back into town and got some take away Indian food. A good day in the bush indeed.

Tuesday

After such a busy day on Monday we crashed. Ahhhhhhh, a big sleep in, with a pancake and bacon lunch. Yeah. We had to do a bit of afternoon duty at the shop, so we headed in around 2:30. Honestly, if you have to work a shift, the 2:30pm to 5:00pm one isn't too bad.

After a grueling shift at the shop, we were famished and needed nourishment. Well the CEO's sister and husband we headed to Kellers Restaurant for some fine dining. Beef Vindaloo (which is only served HOT mind you) was my dish of choice. Of course my dish of choice was seated next to me, so that made it a dual dish of choice, evening. Not bad.

Wednesday

Another easy day at the shop, but a few morning errands to run. The CEO had an appointment, so I headed out for a bit more exploring. I went to the base of Anzac Hill, where I followed the foot trail up. After reaching the top I checked out the various informational signage and snapped photos. This is easily the best place to see Alice Springs from.

Lunch was an afternoon delight, or was it the afternoon delight was lunch? Hmmmmmm... Off to the shop for the grueling shift. This night we kept it simple and did some home cooking. Actually, I did no cooking. Yes, the CEO runs a business and cooks. Amazing. I might have to keep her. We settled in for a quiet movie night. Rented Music and Lyrics, which was a lighthearted romantic comedy. The movie wasn't bad, but the best part was the 80's intro music video. Dead on. Overall, a great day and many more to come.

It sounds like you had one of the best times of your life. There's something so carefree and flirtatious about vacations and romance intertwined.

I only wish that there were photos, too....

;^)
