Oh No, Call The Doctor

09.07.2007

Under the bridge, under the weather

This section features going into the end of my second week. I could tell something was up when my head cold that started a week ago was not getting better. Blahhh.

08.09.2007 to 08.10.2007

Thursday

The previous day I could tell my head cold was simply not getting better. Going back about a week I had a mild cold that seemed to go away. My throat was a bit sore, but that didn't last long. However, I started to have this feeling like I had sore glands and that made swallowing food not fun. Great. Thursday morning I could tell it wasn't getting better. The CEO called up and made an appointment for me for a doctor. Just what I wanted to do on a trip, get sick and have to go to the doctor.

Now, for the record, I am NOT the type of person who goes to the doctor unless something is wrong, really wrong. I can usually tell if I am going to get better, and this time I wasn't sure what was up. We had a few busy days ahead of us as well as trips to Adelaide and Sydney lined up, so I didn't want to be sick going there. Better to be safe than sorry.

I didn't have an appointment until the afternoon, so I stayed home while the CEO went to the shop. I got a chance to watch some TV. Now, there were only 4 channels, so there was not much to choose from, but I got a taste. Daytime TV there sucks like it does here. Morning shows are filled with the same sort of info we have here, which I never care to watch. Basically, I just kicked back.

I was glad by the time my appointment came. I could tell I was dragging. The doctor was great and quickly got to the bottom of it: tonsillitis. This was good in a way because it proved that I wasn’t a sissy with a head cold. The bad news: what the hell did having this mean? Hmmm, the last time I honestly heard of tonsillitis was when I watched an old Brady Bunch episode. I remember there was a hospital stay for Cindy and Mrs. Brady and then there was ice cream. Well, thankfully, all I needed was some penicillin, Mate!

That evening was laid back and I had a simple chicken soup dinner, and later we watched Stranger Than Fiction. There was some ice cream involved at some point too. The road to recovery is not always rough. The CEO was good to me, INDEED.

Friday

I could tell pretty quickly that I was feeling better. I followed the CEO into the shop and was up to a few tasks. I did have some time to wander out and get a few souvenirs from a shop in Todd Mall: you know the typical stuff like t-shirts and boomarangs. I could tell my energy levels were returning and that was good. The morning went pretty quick and we headed out to have lunch back at home. Then nap time.

Later we had plans to cook a simple spaghetti dinner at home. It was great to have some silly kitchen banter while we worked together. I teased about the sauce to meat ratio. I teased about the amount of noodles being cooked. It's all good fun, but for the record I am the noodle master with spaghetti. I can size up the amount needed quickly and with precision. Of course, sometimes it's more fun to not always be right. ;)

These two days were rather laid back in terms of visiting sites, but it was nice to catch my illness and put it to rest before the next few busy days hit us.
