Roos And Koalas And Emus Too

11.30.2008

Cuddle me you know you wanna

A full day in Brisbane, and certainly one full of stuff to see, full of wild animals and full of news. But, enough of the jibber jabber, let's get to it.

Australia

Off to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary for some wildlife galore and photos, photos and more photos!

Australia

Australia

Australia

Yep, the crazy emu's giving me the stare and plenty of noisy birds all around.

Australia

Australia

Yep, dingoes laying around, as expected.

Australia

Australia

Crickey!

Australia

Sorry, had to be done. Of course, there were some koalas since they were the main attraction.

Australia

Australia

Yeah, those emu's kept getting in the way. Seriously, the best part of wildlife parks and sanctuaries here is the fact that those are the best places to get up nice and close with the kangaroos.

I did say plenty of photos, right? Of course there was a tragic victim in the process of the photo taking: my shorts. Yep, the previous day my shorts started to tear and I did some emergency surgery on them with my travel sewing kit. However, today I bent too far and rip they went. Of course, we still had a few sights to see, so I made sure to cross my legs and not position myself into certain positions at all times.

The next stop was at the Brisbane Botanical Gardens, which featured plenty of beautiful colors and smells.

Australia

Doesn't get any sweeter than that! There were also plenty of birds and critters and spiders in the gardens.

Australia

Australia

I did also see something from a great place to visit. I just hope my next travel partner agrees.

Australia

Mt. Coot-Ha's lookout point was the next stop and the view of the city below was simply amazing. However, I couldn't see my house from here.

Australia

We returned to the hotel for a bit of a rest afterwards and then headed out for some shorts shopping. Into Myer's to check out the men's wear and the first pair of shorts I looked at were on sale for $149AUS - DREAMING! I kept looking and found a very suitable pair for $35AUS - BARGAIN! Mission accomplished. We also grabbed some "chips and salsa" at Coles. In Australia "chips" are basically Doritos, and salsa is at best, jarred stuff that's about as good as marginal jarred stuff back at home. After eating enough of the stuff you start to hallucinate and see metallic kangaroos on the streets.

Australia

We headed out for our final Brisbane dinner and hit an Irish pub for some Guinness and a big t-bone steak. Doesn't get more Aussie than that. Seriously, I was looking forward to the best beer in Australia: Coopers, which seems to be very rare outside of Southern Australia. Grrrrrrrrrr.

With the night winding down, I'm getting ready to bid this city farewell, but it will certainly always be a place I have memories of. Good night Brisbane!
