Two Extremes

12.18.2008

From HOT to HOTTER

The monkey has truly experienced the two extremes in the past few weeks. Going from temperature differences of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, from having no ketchup in sight to all that I could ever desire, going from left to right, and what was down is now up. It was a bit disorientating, but truly one thing made me realize I was home.

It's amazing at how fast you can get used to something, and how something no matter how long you practice or work at, can never feel familiar. Interesting, indeed. Hard to think about wearing shorts and putting on sunscreen at the moment. Numb fingers (even with gloves on) ,shoveling the driveway, again and again. I think this has been more than enough to remind me that it's December and not summer again.

It still feels odd that I haven't had one sip of egg-nog, a holiday-themed drink from Starbucks, or any pumpkin pie yet this year. I can see that I running out of time, but the next few weeks are certainly going to be filled with enough of the good stuff to make me truly feel like I am home again.

It was truly odd to walk into World Market last weekend, and see Tim Tams (labeled slightly differently) and Coopers beer on the shelf. Truly, you don't have to go far to be far away, and even when you are far away, you can feel closer to home than ever. Extremes, indeed.
