Getting A Decade Out Of All Of That Decadence

Ten years ago we all partied like it was 1999 because, well, it was 1999. The Artist Formally Known As Prince never saw it coming. Panicked people packing cans of Spam into Y2K doomsday fallout shelters. Many were concerned, and many others were not. Everything in Its Right Place so we thought, and it turned out that the Kid was A-ok after all on January 1st, 2000.

Think about it, fresh into 2000, George W Bush was still a year away from taking office and the New York skyline was unchanged. There was no such thing as Myspace, Facebook or YouTube. Napster wasn't something you bought gift cards for at Best Buy. A cell phone was just a phone and nobody had an iPod.

It's always interesting to look back and think, "if I only knew then, what I know now", and I'm sure in 2020 it won't be any different.

This past year has been nothing short of amazing. While I wasn't searching for a decent bacon cheeseburger in Australia, climbing (hiking, actually) to the top of a mountain, or walking on a glacier in Alaska, I still had many breathtaking sites to see this past year. I'm very happy to say that The Teacher was a part of all of them.
