It's All About The Cousins

01.21.2010

Not always easily planned

It certainly has not been the case that I have had little to write about these days. Nope. Busy, busy, busy.

Last weekend The Teacher, little Magnus and I (plus the dog) got into the car and drove over the mountain pass to Portland for a dual baby shower. The drive was very easy with Winter being so mild this year. It hardly even looked like Winter on the pass. More like Spring with the snow melting and warmish temperatures. I could hardly even justify packing the heavy Winter coat in the car, but I did anyway. You never know.

This was also going to be the first time Magnus would be around all of his cousins too. If you've lived in Bend a while maybe you remember that odd restaurant called Cousins that was located where Honkers used to be (I'm sure that's real useful if you don't know that either). Everyone who worked there would say "Howdy cousin!", "What would like to order cousin?", or "Will you marry me cousin?". Yeah, it was odd and I wasn't surprised when they went out of business. With real cousins you rarely have that level of oddness, unless you do actually get married.

Of course this first meeting of the cousins meant that some decent photos needed to be taken. The Teacher and I had previously stayed at her aunt and uncles place (where the baby shower was being hosted), so I already knew what the interior offered for photo opportunities: plenty. Of course getting little kids to pose isn't always easy either.

Yeah, that set up was arranged by the great aunts. Not bad, but I had other ideas.

Here's the classic pose with Magnus and his slightly older cousin Lucy. I think the both of them could hardly contain their cousin excitement. Since I couldn't really Duct tape the kids to the chairs, I had to have them quickly plopped into place and then fired away with machine gun bursts on my camera.

For the second shot, it involved all five cousins. Not exactly easy to pose one infant or toddler, but five? Oh dear! Once again no Duct tape was allowed (who makes these silly rules anyway?). So, it was drop and shoot before anyone could run away (and believe me they tried). Next time I might just try gum on the chairs.

The mighty

Not bad for no Duct tape or gum on the chairs useage.

Since January first I've also taken on a daily photo project of Magnus. It's been a lot of fun (and work too). As I mentioned above, posing an infant is not always easy either. You can see the results up to this point here.

I'm not going to reveal which of those shots used gum or Duct tape. You'll have to figure that out yourself.
