Plenty has been going on for The Teacher and The Architect these days. Before the weekend hit, we were both busily preparing for the Magnus birthday celebration. Of course I had some extra fun at work when two Windows computers got hit with a nasty virus / malware, that simply left both systems running like a three-legged horse (after supposedly being clean). Groan. At least the week was slow, which gave me time to do fresh installs of everything. I could go on and rant about this stuff, but that's not what I want to write about today. On Friday my office had a small gathering with pizza and cookies. It was nice and simple, or simply nice. Actually, just what I needed after a few days of dealing with computer troubleshooting. Later in the day, some of the The Teacher's family arrived for Magnus' birthday celebration on Saturday. While, The Teacher and myself had done a lot to get ready, there was still plenty of stuff to get done. So, Friday night the crew got to work, cranking out cupcakes, appetizers and signage.
The Teacher and myself had an idea for a banner, and I did some general design of it. However, Christy brought it to life and rocked it in every way possible.
One other element of the party was to have a photo booth. I'll get to that more later, but here is the sign.
Since this was a cupcake party, the guests all got yummy cupcakes with frosting that would make Paula Deen blush. Butter, butter and more butter. Cream cheese too.
Magnus got a cupcake too. His was modified to look like a monkey (go figure). I should also mention that it was slightly larger than your average cupcake. If you measured the amount of cake mix it took to make it, it was about a box and a half.
Saturday was the actual day of the party. The crew continued to work and prepare the delectable dishes.
Another challenge on the day was the fact it snowed about 6 inches at our house. However, that didn't affect attendance too much. We still had a full house. We also had the typical party events. Balloon animals, presents, but when it was time for Magnus' cupcake he was ready.
So, when you mix Magnus and a giant monkey cupcake, it was awesome. More than just fun to watch as he seriously ate a major portion of the cupcake. He then went on talking and talking and talking. It made no sense, but everyone got a crack out of him. However, before you get to see the mess, I'll go back to the photo booth we set up. Actually, this project was my baby for the party. The Teacher and myself previously found a great piece of fabric for our background. I next set up my camera with a corded remote for triggering the camera. The idea was to make it simple for anyone to operate.
I also had the camera tethered to my laptop that had an extra monitor attached. This let you see your photo after it was taken. I had one flash lighting this (through my DIY beauty dish). Overall the setup was a little involved, but everyone got into this and we got some great photos from the guests.
Oh yeah, and look what happens when you give Magnus a massive chocolate monkey cupcake. This is what you get.
Happy Birthday Magnus.
