On The Road - First To Astoria
We've been on the road a lot lately. During the last eleven days I've only slept in my bed at home three nights. Yesterday we were in Portland up at 5:30am (for the Race For The Cure) and didn't get back home in Bend until 11:00pm last night, so needless to say it was a long day. However, let's go back to where all of this road trip madness started. September 8th
This day was The Teacher's birthday, and a small present to her was taking the day off of work and heading up to spend it with her family in Astoria. This included dinner at the Ship Inn, which has fish & chips to die for. However no one kicked the bucket. September 9th
We started the day playing around at home with Magnus' cousins - Molly and Isaac.
That was the warm up. We headed out later for lunch and a trip to a park.
Of course I almost jumped for joy when I saw the old-school metal merry-go-round. During my youth, these were easily the greatest source of fun and playground injuries. Of course The Teacher's mom is a nurse (and was with us), so I figured 'why not' and we went crazy.
Of course, wthen the action got faster Magnus grabbed the bar and held on tight.
There were some minor spills, but nothing worse than in my younger days. After the park we hit the grocery store for some goodies. Three small kids in a shopping cart is enough craziness, trust me. Molly and Isaac scored some caramel apples and enjoyed those on the way home.
No sticky messy apple for Magnus. Based on his eating messes, that might have been far too epic for a car ride, so we played it safe. After returning back to The Teacher's parent's house the little ones took a nap and The Teacher and myself ventured out to some other sites. First up was a fish hatchery to watch the massive salmon returning back home. There were hundreds of salmon in the pool. Quite a sight to see.
On the fish ladder, the salmon were jumping out of the water like crazy. It was very impressive to watch.
After watching the salmon for a while, we drove around Brownsmead. There are plenty of cows, fields and older buildings in this area. Every now and then we stopped so that I could get a few photos of the goodies.
We returned back to Magnus awake and somewhat refreshed. I had him pose on a tricycle.
Ummm... maybe he wasn't as refreshed as I thought. Later we had a dinner featuring homemade fried chicken. Ahhhhhhh... Not a bad way to end our first full day away.
We began Saturday morning nice and early watching Molly's soccer game.
It started off very foggy/misty, but then started to clear off and warm up as we watched the kids run around.
Afterwards, we had some grub and then headed out to Arcadia beach. Since the weather was looking very promising we were not the only ones enjoying the beach today. It was very crowded.
The Teacher's brother had secured us a spot and created a nice water-feature for the cousins to play in.
Magnus and Lucy didn't take long to get into action either.
It was almost too nice to leave.
This day certainly had plenty of high notes.
This was all just the start. There's more to come.
